Sportec Tweaks the VW Golf VI GT 1.4-liter TSI to 200HP

Mostly known for its Porsche proposals, Swiss based tuner Sportec has now released a new range of performance enhancements for the latest generation VW Golf GT that is powered by a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine. In standard form, the turbo-and-supercharged 1.4 TSI makes 160HP and 240Nm or 177lb.ft of torque. With Sportec's Stage 1 kit that includes recalibration of the fuel, ignition timing and boost pressure settings via the ECU remap, power increases to 200HP at 5,000 rpm and 286Nm or 211 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 rpm, or about at the same levels as the previous Golf GTI.

With the performance kit, the Golf GT's 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) acceleration time is reduced from 8.2 to 6.8 seconds, while the 0-180 km/h (111mph) time arrives 3.2 seconds earlier than before.

The downside is a slight increase in fuel consumption from 6.3 lt/100km (37.3mpg US) to 6.7lt/100km (35mpg US) while the conversion also requires the use of higher octane Super Unleaded fuel.

Aside from the Stage 1 engine kit, Sportec also offers a full range of performance and styling enhancements, including exhausts, suspension and braking components, as showcased on the Sportec SC200 1.4 TSI car pictured in the gallery.
