2008 Honda S2000 CR Prototype

Scheduled to go on sale in the fall of this year, the S2000 CR "is the closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda. "Its features and equipment are designed to appeal to weekend club racing enthusiasts."

While keeping the 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine, this new s2k trim offers firmer springs and dampers, larger stabilizer bars, a quicker steering ratio, increased body and chassis rigidity, and aerodynamic front and rear spoilers to reduce lift.

Going for performance, Honda nixed the convertible soft top for the CR, replacing it with an aluminum hardtop, thereby taking off an additional 90 pounds of weight.

Like a diehard sports car, air conditioning and an AM/FM Stereo with CD player remain optional for the 2008 Honda S2000 CR.

Instead, it features exclusive cloth seats with yellow stitching, a round aluminum shift knob, carbon fiber-style trim panels, newly designed dark gray 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, a wider rear tire size, ABS, and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). And don't worry, the VSA can be disabled.

So let the fun begin.
