New Honda Civic Type R

Return of the Red: New Honda Civic Type R

New Honda Civic Type R

Honda has just announced the release of the all-new Civic Type R, scheduled to go on sale throughout Japan on Friday, March 30.

This CTR is powered by a specially-tuned 2.0-liter normally aspirated engine pumping out 221 horsepower and 158 lb/ft of torque, along with a six-speed manual transmission.

Performance-wise, the CTR has a lighter, more rigid body shell, special lightweight 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in high-performance Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, large 17-inch front disc brakes with Brembo 4-pot aluminum front calipers, and a torque-sensitive helical limited slip differential.

Revised spring and damping rates and thicker stabilizer bars also improve the handling of this sports edition Civic. New for 2007 are the highly rigid aluminum transmission case and baffle plate, which mitigate oil starvation at high cornering speeds, and the Drive-By-Wire (DBW), which enhances throttle response and power output.

Aerodynamic features include a large air intake in the front bumper and grille, a rear bumper with integrated rear diffuser, a high-mount rear spoiler, and extended side sill garnishes.

The hood, front fenders, grille, headlight sub-reflector, and of course the Type R red Honda emblem are all unique to this model.

The niftiest interior feature has to be the "i-VTEC engine revolution indicator" that alerts the driver when engine speed is approaching redline.

Other cool features include the engine-start button (similar to the one found in the S2000), a small-diameter, leather steering wheel, a round, aluminum shift knob, a short shifter, metal pedals, and signature Type R front bucket seats.

I think I speak for the rest of the US, when I ask, "Hey Honda, what about us?
