GL 450 4MATIC
In the GL 450 4MATIC, V8 petrol engine waits for your command. It functions with a four-valve-per-cylinder design. The result: 250 kW (340 hp) and maximum torque of 460 Nm make every stretch of road a pleasure to drive.
Transmisions
7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission
The 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission does all the hard work for you by always finding the perfect gear to suit the current situation and your driving style, as well as delivering high pulling and accelerating power to the wheels. A total of seven ratios allows smaller steps between the gears, adding to the smoothness of the GL-Class. And whenever you feel like stepping up the pace somewhat, the kickdown function slips into action: press the accelerator pedal down to its limit and the transmission instantly selects the optimum gear for maximum acceleration. It is even able to skip gears when downshifting for yet sharper acceleration response. Should you wish, you can also change gear manually using the steering-wheel shifter buttons.
4MATIC all-wheel drive
Even when the going gets tough, 4MATIC all-wheel drive helps to keep you safely on your way. If there is a risk of wheels spinning on surfaces with varying degrees of grip, selective brake actuation instantaneously redirects the engine's torque to the wheels that are not spinning. The electronic dynamic handling control system (4ESP®/4ETS) with integral ABS and ASR is adjusted to the special requirements of the all-wheel drive. It automatically directs the drive torque to the wheels with the best tyre grip, affording excellent traction and directional stability.
